LVR® vs. Labiaplasty: Popular Vaginal Procedures, But what’s the difference?

Posted by David Matlock, MD on Apr 29, 2019 1:16:45 PM

With surgical and technical innovation at previously unthinkable levels, women are more empowered than ever to look and feel their best. This is true for all women. In particular, surgical innovation has empowered those who have had children and were left thinking they were doomed to a life with less sexual gratification, stress urinary incontinence, and undesirable appearance of their labia minora.

Dr. David Matlock is the pioneer in female genital cosmetic surgery. He has trained hundreds of surgeons across the globe, and has empowered women across the world (in 70 countries and all 50 United States) with his groundbreaking procedures.

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® or LVR® and Labiaplasty are two of Dr. Matlock’s most popular procedures. But with so much technical and medical terminology involved, it can be difficult for patients to understand the differences between these procedures, and how each can enhance the appearance and ultimately, the lives of patients.

Here is a closer look at the differences between Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® and Labiaplasty:

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®(LVR®) vs. Labiaplasty

A look at Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® or LVR®, is a surgical procedure that treats the internal walls and muscles of the vagina. During Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®, Dr. Matlock uses a laser to cut, dissect, and suture material to tighten the vaginal muscles.

Patients choose Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® to enhance sexual gratification, and for some women, to relieve stress urinary incontinence, an involuntary loss of urine when coughing, laughing, sneezing, or exercising, which happens to some women after childbirth. Women are not meant to suffer from decreased sexual gratification and stress urinary incontinence, simply because they’ve had children.

While Dr. Matlock performs Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® on many women who wish to enhance sexual gratification and have not had children, the vast majority, 95%, of LVR® patients have had children and wish to restore the look and feel of their vagina to a more youthful, pre-childbirth appearance.

An introduction to Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that reduces the appearance of a large or protruding labia minora.

Dr. Matlock has created his cutting-edge Laser Reduction Labiaplasty to deliver the most desirable results for patients. He has refined his labiaplasty procedures to produce desirable results for patients depending on their specific needs, including:

Laser Reduction Labiaplasty

Laser Reduction Labiaplasty (or LRL) of the Labia Minora is the second-most common female genital cosmetic surgery procedure performed by Dr. Matlock. Patients from around the world choose Dr. Matlock to deliver a desirable, youthful appearance of their labia minora.

LRL is a surgical procedure that uses a laser for cutting, and applying absorbable suture material to aesthetically reapproximate the skin edges of the labia minora. LRL is an excellent choice for patients who are concerned with large, sagging, thick, uneven, or aesthetically unappealing labia minora.

To address specific areas of concern, LRL may be combined with the following:

Reduction of excess prepuce

Many patients ask Dr. Matlock to combine Laser Reduction Labiaplasty with the reduction of excess prepuce, or the skin surrounding the clitoris, to provide an overall more youthful appearance.

Reduction of thickness of the minora

While LRL alone reduces the length of the labia minora, some patients ask Dr. Matlock to perform LRL with a reduction in the thickness of the minora to further enhance and create a more youthful appearance.
