Why LVR® has better long-term effects than ThermiVa, MonaLisa Touch and other non-surgical procedures

Posted by David Matlock, MD on Apr 29, 2019 12:42:31 PM

Aging, and in particular, childbirth, has massively traumatic effects on sexual gratification and even urinary incontinence. As more women are empowered to seek options and enhance their sexual gratification, to take charge of their quality of life and ask for what they need, new treatments for these issues have been developed.

Chief among them is Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® or LVR®, a surgical procedure performed by Los Angeles-based Dr. David Matlock, a world-renowned surgeon and the pioneer of female genital plastic surgery.

But while LVR® leads the way in treatment for sexual gratification and urinary incontinence issues caused by childbirth and aging, there are other treatment options available to women today.

To make the best decision for you and your quality of life, this post will examine the long-term effects of LVR®, and compare them to non-surgical options.

An Introduction to Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation®

LVR® rejuvenates the vagina to a youthful, pre-pregnancy state in both function and appearance. During Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® Dr. Matlock enhances vaginal muscle tone, strength,  and control, effectively decreasing the internal and external diameters of the vagina, and building up the perineal body. These elements generate increased frictional forces, which directly correspond to enhanced sexual gratification.

LVR® also provides a cure for patients suffering from stress urinary incontinence (SUI), a loss of urine when bending, straining, laughing, sneezing, or exercising.

We go into greater detail on Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® here.

Comparing LVR® to ThermiVa and MonaLisa Touch

ThermiVa and MonaLisa Touch are non-surgical procedures that claim to enhance the labia and vagina for patients. Both treatments make similar promises and operate under the same theory: stimulating the production of collagen will “restore” the labia and vagina.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It provides strength and structure to our skin, bones, muscles, hair, and nails. As we age, our bodies naturally produce less collagen. You are probably familiar with facial treatments that stimulate production of collagen to reduce the signs of aging.

ThermiVa and MonaLisa Touch apply those claims to the vagina and labia. During these non-surgical procedures, a device is inserted into the vagina and heat is applied to stimulate the body’s natural ability to produce collagen. In about three months, many patients have been producing more collagen.

Why LVR® has better long-term effects than non-surgical alternatives

ThermiVa and MonaLisa smile claim that more collagen can tighten and improve the appearance and feeling of the vagina and labia. But while patients may see some results, they simply pale in comparison to LVR® for two (2) important reasons:

They do not treat the actual cause of the problem.
Reduced sexual gratification and stress urinary incontinence are due to pelvic relaxation following childbirth. Stimulating collagen production may produce a slight, temporary tightening response; however, it does nothing to address the actual cause of your symptoms. Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation® was designed by listening to what women want! LVR enhances, vaginal muscle tone, strength and control. It effectively decreases the internal diameter, extra diameter and builds up the perineal body. This can only be done via a real surgical procedure.

Results are temporary.
As opposed to LVR®, which offers permanent results (as long as you do not have additional children), the results from non-surgical treatments like ThermiVa  and MonaLisa Touch are temporary. ThermiVa claims their results last up to one year, while results from MonaLisa Touch are purported to last up to 18 months. In fact many patients who have had these non surgical treatments have come to us for LVR because they reported that the non-surgical procedures did nothing! The FDA has even released warnings about these unapproved procedures. Read more here.

LVR® is a surgical procedure performed in Dr. Matlock’s 5,000-square foot facility in Beverly Hills, California. While the cost and downtime of surgery is more substantial than those for non-surgical procedures including ThermiVa and MonaLisa Touch, the results speak for themselves.
